“A deliverable programme developed with the community for the transformation of Jaywick into an inclusive, safe, sustainable, economically buoyant community taking advantage of its coastal location.”
(Masterplan Vision, Jaywick Masterplan Brief)
We joined Royal Haskoning and The Fairhursts Design Group in preparing a tender bid for the masterplan. Our approach was to address Jaywick’s historical and economic raison d’être – the beach, and to augment the overall masterplan by focusing on the maximisation of the economic and commercial potential of Jaywick’s seaside location.
We proposed that Jaywick’s unique coastal position and beautiful sandy beach should be key economic drivers for the sustainable future of the Jaywick community, where an integrated, positive strategy for the waterfront at Jaywick would create an exciting attraction for the town, reinvigorate the established but fading tourism industry and bring economic prosperity and new jobs to the area. We proposed that we would build on the extensive knowledge and understanding we have of the site to envision a high quality, waterfront-focused public realm, where spaces are attractive, inviting and valued by those who use them.
