East Reef is a proposal for the regeneration of the waterfront at Jaywick Sands, Essex - an area that forms part of masterplan proposals currently being developed by Llewellyn Davies Yeang. The focus of our proposal is the East Reef Landmark Promenade - a powerful symbol of positive change, which is envisaged to inspire sympathetic development on and around the beach and waterfront including the East Reef Dive Centre, tidal Lido and beachfront esplanade.
The promenade - a 21st century pier - would be a striking landmark providing views out to sea and back over the town and surrounding area. Measuring 260 metres in length, 15 metres high and 5 metres wide the Landmark Promenade will by day have the appearance of a beautiful stitch between the sea and the sky, and at night the whole structure will be illuminated like a series of lanterns glowing out at sea. The East Reef Dive Centre - UK's first premium quality, custom-built dive and aquarium experience - would provide a hyper real, temperate, underwater landscape teeming with fantastic creatures.
The East Reef proposal has the potential to not only become an amenity and to provide a landmark for local residents strengthening local pride, but also to reinvigorate Jaywick as a coastal destination, once known as 'one of the happiest resorts on the Essex Coast'.
The proposals are subject to consultation with residents over the next few months and the East Reef team is currently in discussion with Llewellyn Davies Yeang and EEDA to explore how the East Reef project may be embedded into the wider plans for the area.
